To centralize and consolidate the University town and gown relationship, the Centre for Ilorin Studies was established in the year 2012 for among other reasons, the purpose of research and community service to Ilorin Emirate and its environs, which is the host community of the University.
This was in furtherance of the vision and mission of the University of Ilorin to be a centre of academic excellence by providing world-class enabling environment.
As a research and community service-oriented organ, the Centre aims at attaining the following objectives:
- collect, catalogue and preserve digital copies of manuscripts on Arabic, religion, history and cultural heritage of Ilorin Emirate;
- collect and preserve electronic and hard copies of publications of Ilorin indigene scholars in all disciplines;
- collect and preserve electronic and hard copies of publications relating to Ilorin Emirate by the lecturers of the University of Ilorin in all disciplines;
- collect and preserve all publications relating to Ilorin Emirate from any part of the world;
- Promote and organize research on all aspects of development connected to Ilorin;
- Publish periodical bulletin on Ilorin studies; and collaborate with other concerned institutions or organizations to publish journals, books and documents on socio-cultural issues related to Ilorin Emirate in Arabic, English and other languages.
